What does sanctification really mean?

Every Christian starts the process of sanctification from the time they are saved.

It is not transferred, but the word itself means becoming more pure and holy, little by little, as a result of obedience to the Word and following the example of Christ.

I Thessalonians 3: 13

To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.

Dictionary meaning: to set apart as holy - to purify - to render sacred

The Hebrew root word has 2 basic meanings:

1. set apart for exclusive use, separated, regarded as sacred in contrast to the profane

2. brightness - an idea related to purification

God wants His Children to separate ourselves from the world. Each of us has a specific gift, and He has set us apart for exclusive use in carrying out that plan to further His Kingdom.

The New Testament lays equal stress on both God's part and ours in becoming holy. There is an intense struggle against sin to be fought and God does not transform a person without their active co-operation in the battle against sin.

The Holy Spirit works through the believer's faithful dependence upon him to produce increasing spiritual maturity. The more maturity you have, the more God will be able to use you.

How awesome to know that your Wonderful Father wants to use you to do mighty things for the Kingdom of God!
